Manipur Violence News: Manipur Security Advisor Kuldeep Singh and Director General of Police Rajeev Singh issued a joint statement on Wednesday evening rejecting the Chief Minister’s Office’s (CMO) claim that more than 900 Kuki militants had entered the state from Myanmar. Following this, the CMO withdrew its earlier statement.
On September 17, a CMO intelligence report was leaked, claiming that over 900 Kuki militants trained in drone-based bombs, projectiles, missiles and jungle warfare have entered Manipur from Myanmar. The report further said that these militants are organised in units of 30. They are planning to launch multiple attacks on Meitei villages around September 28.
The security advisor also confirmed this on September 20
On September 20, Security Advisor Kuldeep Singh had told reporters that security agencies, especially Assam Rifles, have been put on high alert in the hill districts bordering Myanmar following intelligence inputs. He mentioned that the issue was discussed in a meeting of the Strategic Operations Group chaired by him, which comprised top officials of various security forces like the Army, Assam Rifles, Central Reserve Police Force, Border Security Force and state police. Kuldeep Singh’s statement was criticised by Kuki-Zo groups.
The leaked report was denied on Wednesday
Now on Wednesday, two top security officials of Manipur issued a clarification, stating that the input was thoroughly verified but could not be confirmed. The statement assured all communities of their safety and advised them not to believe any rumours or unconfirmed information. Following this joint statement, the Chief Minister’s Office spoke to the Information and Public Relations Department as well as security officials and withdrew their earlier claims.
Cookie groups said they will shut down
Meanwhile, several Kuki groups in Manipur have called for a bandh in tribal-dominated areas, angry over the leak of the government’s intelligence report. Two top bodies of Kukis announced a complete bandh in all Kuki-inhabited areas. The statement was issued on Tuesday by Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), an apex Kuki organization, and Swadeshi Adivasi Neta Manch (ITLF), another Kuki group, both based in Churachandpur in Manipur.
Cookie organizations will monitor the shutdown
Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) said that the information received from CMO about the alleged infiltration of 900 trained Kuki militants from Myanmar and coordinated attack on Meitei villages on September 28 was baseless. The Kuki organisation claimed that this statement is completely baseless and fabricated by the Manipur government to justify the planned attack against the Kuki-Zo community. The statement said that on September 28, a complete shutdown will be enforced in all the inhabited areas of Kuki-Zo, which will be monitored by Kuki Inpi and KSO in their respective areas.
